The African Serval is a small African cat found mainly in East Africa in the Savannah Zone. It is easily tamed and hunters have often used them to help in the hunt. They usually average about 40 pounds when full grown. It is primarily nocturnal. Prey is apparently located both by sight and by hearing. Birds up to 6 feet above the ground may be captured by remarkable leaps, but its diet consist mainly of rodents. The Serval is hunted for its skin in East Africa and now no longer occurs in that area.
